Justify wins 144th running of Kentucky Derby
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - It was a soggy day at Churchill Downs Saturday for the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky.
Justify #7 and his jockey, Mike Smith didn't seem to mind the rain, easily winning the Run for the Roses.
Justify was the early 7-2 favorite in the full field of 20 colts. His trainer, Bob Baffert hoped for his fifth victory in the Derby.
Favorites have won the Kentucky Derby for the last five years, the longest such streak since the 1970s.
The winner of the Kentucky Derby gets a $2 million prize.
Good Magic #6 and Audible #5 came in second and third, respectively.
