Houston Rockets fire head coach Kevin Mchale
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Following a 4-7 start to the season for the Houston Rockets, the team has fired head coach Kevin McHale, FOX 26 sports director Mark Berman has confirmed. NBA sources also confirm that JB Bickerstaff, who has been McHale's top assistant, will serve as interim head coach.
"It was not working," said Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey. "We will change until it works." He also admitted that the Rockets organization must look in the mirror to see what it takes to get better.
Morey also described Bickerstaff as a great leader who has been ready his whole life for this opportunity as an NBA head coach.
"Since I've been here, the team has never played this badly," said Rockets owner Leslie Alexander. "The city and the fans and myself couldn't go on with this kind of effort."
"We're losing by 20 points every game and the team didn't show any response," added Alexander. "It was almost like a dead team. A change had to be made."
"I like Kevin McHale very much," said Alexander. "I think he's a tremendous coach but for some reason it didn't work this year."
