Tatum Henderson is walking tall after she sank a beyond half-court shot to give her Arlington Martin team an overtime victory.
The senior guard on the Arlington Martin High School basketball team hit the shot from nearly 60 feet away as the buzzer sounded during Friday night’s game. It gave Martin a 56-53 overtime victory over rival Arlington Lamar.
“I couldn't believe it. I've never had anything like that so far,” Henderson said.
Henderson’s shot was so unbelievable that it made ESPN’s SportsCenter.
“My coach told me,” Henderson said, of when she realized her big shot was getting national attention. “We saw an Instagram and Twitter and it was on TV and I couldn't believe it.”
Henderson said it’s been surreal to see the clip replayed and go back to that moment when her teammates mobbed her at center court.
“It's still weird seeing everybody cheer for me,” Henderson said. “It was so exciting and I was happy to see my teammates.”
Henderson credited her fellow players for putting her in a position to succeed. She said she’s learned that working hard and working with others can help people do well on the court and life.
