Gwinnett Police said it's one of the worst cases of neglect they've seen and have charged two caregivers.

Firefighters responded to a call at a home on Pine Tree Circle. They found a bedridden obese woman who was unconscious. According to the incident report, her legs were black and showing "signs of active decomposition" and "maggots and roaches were attached to her and eating at her flesh."

"She had been laying there for quite some time, not receiving proper care," said Gwinnett County Police Cpl.Wilbert Rundles.

Police arrested the woman's two caregivers, 54-year-old Terry Sorrells and 18-year-old Christian Sorrells, and charged them with neglect of a disabled person.

Jean lives next door. He said he has known the family for about 5 years. He doesn't think the two meant to harm her. He believes they didn't know how to help her.

"I can't blame whoever is in the house at the same time, I can't blame them because I know they couldn't do it. Terry got a heart condition, in my opinion, he wasn't capable of taking care of that woman," said Jean.

Police said while it's a horribly sad situation, they're just glad they could get to her in time to find her some help.

The woman was admitted to the hospital and was improving as of Wednesday evening.
