DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - The search is on for the gunmen who shot and killed a 3-year-old boy. DeKalb County Police said Sunday night's deadly shooting appears to be a random drive-by.
T'hrigi Diggs was asleep in the backseat of an SUV his mom was driving. She was on Eastland near Bouldercrest when she told police a gray Dodge Charger pulled up next to her.
"She saw someone was pointing what appeared to be a paint gun at her vehicle and she heard a real gunshot," said DeKalb County Police Chief James Conroy.
A bullet went through the back door, hitting T'hrigi in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Monday evening about 100 people gathered at the intersection of the deadly shooting. They released blue and green balloons, lit candles, prayed and comforted T'hrigi's parents, Roshonda Craigh and Jamal Diggs.
"He was only 3. He was very sweet, always laughing," said Craig.
"He had a lot of life in him, he had so much life in him," said Diggs.
DeKalb County Police said they're looking for a newer model gray Dodge Charger with drive-out tags. Police welcome any tips from anyone who has information.
