Police say they have made an arrest in the murder of 22-year-old D.C. man Marty McMillan, who went missing and was found dead several months later after allegedly made contact with a woman he met on dating website "Plenty of Fish."

Investigators say they arrested 40-year-old John McRae, who police allege shot McMillan several times inside a Southeast D.C. apartment before dumping his body in a shallow grave along Suitland Parkway.

McRae reportedly lived with a woman who had been in contact with McMillan through dating website Plenty of Fish, at the apartment on the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast.

McMillan's family, who has been critical of DC police's investigation, learned about the location of where McMillan was shot, after hearing about it from FOX 5 reporters.

The family told FOX 5 in January that they learned on their own about a connection between the apartment where McMillan was shot, to the woman McMillan had been speaking with on the dating site.

“It’s a shame that the reporters got to inform us, the family, and we are not getting any of this information from the detectives,” said Forlescia Cook, McMillan’s grandmother. “My daughter originally gave them the evidence the week that Marty went missing.”

While he was missing, McMillan’s mother had sorted through his phone records and social media and tracked down the woman he was supposed to meet. In her last text, the woman mysteriously told him he better hurry up because her “people would be back soon.”

Investigators say McMillan went missing in April 2017,  but wasn't found until October 30 when U.S. Park Police located his remains in Prince George’s County.

McRae was arrested and charged with second-degree murder while armed.
