NEW JERSEY (FOX5NY.COM) - Students, staff, and parents at Dumont High School in New Jersey experienced a scary day Monday after a teenager posted a threat on social media. The school was temporarily locked down while police investigated.
Authorities took a 15-year-old student into custody Monday afternoon. Police searched his home and found a firearm, Dumont Police Chief Michael Conner said. The boy's mother cooperated with police and said the gun belongs to her.
Police officers, including the Bergen County SWAT team, also searched the school, located at 101 New Milford Avenue, but did not find any weapons, officials said.
The Dumont school district sent a message to parents that authorities took the boy into custody at 1:15 p.m.
