ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WTXF/AP) - A big moment for the Atlantic City police officer shot earlier this month. Thursday afternoon, he was released from the hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation center.
Officer Joshlee Vadell was wheeled out in a stretcher. Wednesday night, Atlantic City police announced his condition had been upgraded and the transfer was expected soon.
Vadell was shot nearly two weeks ago, on Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
Authorities said he and another officer saw a robbery happening at a casino garage. Vadell was shot and critically wounded while getting out of his vehicle.
He underwent surgery, but details on his injuries were not released.
The second officer returned fire and hit robbery suspect Jerome Damon. The 25-year-old Camden man was found dead a short distance away.
Two other suspects remain jailed on $750,000 bail on charges including attempted murder and robbery.
