North Plainfield boy saves the day
It was a typical day for 4-year old Jason Alexander Mejia playing outside in his yard on Richard Way in North Plainfield on June 4.
Jason's playing quickly turned into a real-life drama when he heard an elderly neighbor calling for help. "Jason's actions helped saved the elderly neighbor from her home that was filling up with smoke," said borough Fire Chief William Eaton. "Jason alerted his mother, who called 911."
When the fire department arrived at the scene, the home had moderate smoke and the occupant was on portable oxygen and could not get to a phone stated Eaton.
"Because of Jason's alertness and quick actions we were able to arrive at the scene and remove the occupant," said Eaton. "We are all very proud of Jason."
