Six Flags Great Adventure ride 'El Toro' closed after passengers injured
Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey has closed to El Toro roller coaster after a malfunction sent five of its passengers to the hospital.
NEW JERSEY - At least five people were reportedly hospitalized at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson on Thursday evening.
The incident happened while people were on the El Toro roller coaster.
Police say the injuries were mostly minor, and that originally no one asked for medical attention, but later, about six people who were on the ride did request treatment.
In a statement to FOX 5 NY on Friday, Six Flags said the ride remains closed for inspection.
"Several guests reported back pain after riding El Toro," Six Flags said. "Five guests were taken to a local medical facility for evaluation."
El Toro is one of the tallest, fastest wooden roller coasters in the world, and is consistently ranked as one of the top three wooden roller coasters in the world by the publication Amusement Today.
It's not the first time the park has had issues with the ride, in June 2021, one of the coaster's trains partially derailed.
