Military Families Celebrate Early Christmas with Amazon, Operation Homefront
ATLANTA - Dozens of children got an early start on Christmas thanks to a special event for military families.
Amazon.com and Operation Homefront partnered to fulfill the Christmas wishes of more than 50 children Wednesday.
"We wanted to do something special for our military families this holiday season who sacrifice so much for our freedom," said Amanda Ip, a spokesperson for Amazon.
Parents signed up for the special event and shared their children's Christmas lists with organizers.
"We have got everything from Elsa dolls to scooters to electronics and headphones," explained Ip. "So, we have the entire gamut of toys."
Starr Trujillo said the surprise was especially important for her children this year because her husband was deployed at Thanksgiving.
"We won't see him until the beginning of January. So, for us this is super special that people have [come] together and have wanted to give to my children in his honor," Trujillo said. "My heart is just so full. Tears just have been coming out of my eyes."
Amazon hosted similar events in ten cities across the country. The online retailer also shipped more than 2,000 care packages to military members who will spend the holidays overseas.
