What's Fourth of July without fireworks?

That's a question New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul probably was asking himself Saturday as he prepped for a fireworks extravaganza with a van full of explosives.

But after seriously injuring his hand in a fireworks incident, he probably wondered "Why didn't I sign that deal?"

The deal was a $60 million long-term contract that was on the table last week. The Giants reportedly pulled the offer Monday.

A one-year, $14.8 million deal is still valid, assuming Pierre-Paul can play in 2015. But he's likely to miss the start of the season.

But there wasn’t a lot of sympathy for Pierre-Paul.

"Truthfully, I feel that if I had that amount of money and bought that kind -- amount of fireworks -- wouldn't you maybe hire someone to fire them off for you and not the chance -- the risk -- of doing it yourself?" asked Mike Hilliard of Morrisville, Pennsylvania.

Mark Armstrong of Morrisville said, "If somebody's stupid enough to blow their own hand off -- let 'em."
