Float your cares away in a saline pod
If you are looking for some peace and serenity to get away from the daily grind of life you don't have to look too far.
At Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn you can float in a sensory deprivation pod at Lift Next Level Floats.
The pod is filled with 10 inches of water and 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt.
You are literally floating inside the pod because the water is highly salinized.
"The water is 93.5, which is the temperature of your skin," said co-owner Gina Antioco, "Since there is no temperature variance you are losing awareness of where your body ends and the water begins."
People usually go in naked and float in the dark, but you can wear what you want and also turn on some music or light.
"You are reducing sensory input to the brain," Antioco said, “So what happens is a direct effect on your central nervous system. Your fight or flight turns off and your rest and digest kicks in."
Floating has many benefits: blood pressure goes down, cortisone levels drop, and skin conditions like psoriasis are relieved. Not to mention it’s very relaxing.
Antioco said there are spiritual benefits as well.
A single one-hour session costs $99, and packages are available. However, Chasing News viewers get an introductory rate of $79.
