Meg Wilbur, 24, of Ewing, New Jersey is a self-taught makeup artist. However, she is not your tradition makeup artist.
Wilbur’s specialty includes prosthetic fabrication, masks, and all things with special effects.
Wilbur’s talent has led her to the hit SyFy show "Face Off," a reality competition that explores the work of special-effects makeup artists.
Just last week, Meg and her partner won the challenge.
Surprisingly, Wilbur didn’t set out to do this line of work right away.
She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC for illustration, where her Professor suggested that she tried creating a monster mask.
“He said no but seriously you should, and I was like well I’m a really competitive person, so I went home and thought about it and said well it would probably look really awesome if I did this, so yeah I’m going to do it,” Wilbur explained.
But how exactly did she turn a school project into competing on an international TV Show?
“It’s a lot of googling and I have some special effects makeup books as well, so there’s a lot of research,” Wilbur stated.
She has been doing special effects makeup for 2 years now.
When she’s not competing on ‘Face Off’, she owns her own prosthetic and fabrications company in which she creates pieces for clients.
For the future, however, she doesn’t want to work on movie sets. She wants to be a “shop girl”, where she would create original sculpting and do the entire mold making process.
