Disney offers preview of under-construction 'Star Wars' land
LAKE BUENA VISTA (FOX 13) - A galaxy far, far away is coming together in our own back yard. Construction on “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” is well underway at Disney theme parks in both Florida and California.
The new Star Wars attraction is being billed as “one of the most detailed and immersive lands ever created in Disney Parks history.” Each park’s version will include a full-sized fleet of X-wing fighters and a life-size Millennium Falcon starship.
The official Disney Parks Blog describes it this way:
“Guests will be transported to the planet of Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge that was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes. Here, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two attractions that take detail and immersion to the next level: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
Disney shared video this week showing progress of the construction at Disneyland. It follows last month’s preview of the Star Wars-themed resort, which promised “complete immersion into an authentic Star Wars story.”
The new lands are scheduled to open at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park in 2019.
