CMU shooting suspect a Chicago-area native
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (FOX 32 News) - Authorities are providing more information about the two people killed in a shooting Friday morning on Central Michigan University's campus.
The 19-year-old suspect, Eric Davis Jr., fatally shot both of his parents, Mt. Pleasant police have confirmed. Police are still actively searching for Davis at this time.
Davis is from Plainfield, Illinois, and graduated from Central High School in 2016, said Tom Hernandez, a spokesman for Plainfield School District 202.
Police have not released any details about what led up to the shooting. Earlier, though, police said they were in contact with Davis last night when they took him to the hospital for a drug-related incident.
Police say the victims are Diva Davis, 47, and James E. Davis Sr., 48. Davis Sr. was a part-time police officer in Bellwood, according Bellwood Police Chief Jiminez Allen.
James Davis is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing 135 lbs. He was wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie, but police say they found clothes along the railroad tracks nearby so it's not sure now what Davis could be wearing.
Police say if you see Davis -- do not approach him. He is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, call 911 immediately.
Students received an alert Friday just after 9 a.m. about a report of shots fired on campus. The shots were said to have come from the fourth floor of Campbell Hall, which is a residence hall.
The university has been on lockdown since, but just after 2 p.m. students still on campus were started to be bused to a nearby hotel. Friday was the last day of classes before spring break, so many students had already left campus or were waiting for a ride home.
CMU has asked parents to stay off campus until further notice. CMU asks you go to the Comfort Inn, 2424 S. Mission St, where staff will be on site to support the families.
Central Michigan is in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, about 155 miles northwest of Detroit. More than 20,000 students are at the Mt. Pleasant campus.
