Bullied boy adopts kitty with same cleft lip, rare eye condition

A little boy from Oklahoma drove with his family all the way to Minnesota to pick up his new kitty named "Moon."

But Moon is no ordinary cat. In fact, seven-year-old Madden's mother says the two were destined to become best friends. "These handsome boys were both born with cleft lips and complete heterochromia iridum (different colored eyes)," his mother, Christina Humphreys, wrote on her Facebook page.

Humphreys says Madden was being bullied at school, so she encouraged him to create a video which went viral to explain his unique qualities and remind friends to be kind. She wasn't sure it helped, so when she heard about a kitten with a cleft palate and two different colored eyes just like Madden, was up for adoption, she knew the cat had to be a part of their family.

"Funny how a pet can make you feel less alone," Christina wrote in a post for blogging site Love What Matters, explaining she heard about the cat on a Facebook support group for cleft lips. "Moon helps Madden realize that being born unique is an incredible thing; that he is magic."

With financial help from friends, the Oklahoma family took a road trip to Minnesota over the weekend to pick the kitten up from a rescue group.

"We’re usually not spontaneous people, but we knew that we were meant to love this kitty," Christina said. "Moon, the kitty, and Madden are the perfect companions for each other."

The pair has been inseparable ever since.
