Authorities: Man sped 130 mph on interstate with baby in backseat

Police said he hit an 18-wheeler, a center concrete barrier and a shoulder guardrail before jumping from his car and taking off on a foot. And investigators said his dangerous driving was all while his 7-month-old girl was in the backseat.

Authorities in Cobb County are searching for Xavier Elijah Owens for the incident which happened Sept. 21. The 20-year-old faces a laundry list of charges as a result.

Authorities said Owens was driving in excess of 130 mph on the interstate, often through construction zones, hitting various obstacles in his way. He eventually came to rest in the middle of the busy highway and took off on foot, according to authorities.

Investigators released a photo Owens from a prior arrest for, as police put it, being a “super speeder.”

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police.
