The death of Atlantic City

Atlantic City is dying.  The place that was a vacation paradise for generations has lost huge amounts of revenue as casinos close and visitors go elsewhere. The governor is planning a takeover but a dispute over Union collective bargaining rights with the state Assembly speaker has put the plan on hold. And the city will run out of money and furlough nonessential workers starting April 8.

"I'm going to be with the people no matter what happens," Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian said. "So I would not like to be Robert E. Lee at Appomattox, but if I have to be, that's the case, I'll do. We will negotiate a surrender and we'll be here to help the people because we're going to outlive the bad guys in Trenton."

How did it get this bad? Was it changing vacation plans, technology, corruption? Who killed Atlantic City?
