Alligators in the New York City subways, Bloody Mary in the mirror, and now rats in your toilet.

These have all been urban legends until now because the latter has been proven possible by National Geographic.  The video shows how rats can climb up the S-trap in your plumbing system and out of your toilet.

Billy Swan at NYC Pest Control in Brooklyn says is it true that rats can climb into commodes and they actually do.  In fact, Swan has had two calls just this past week about this nightmare coming true in Brooklyn and the Bronx.

Unless you want to spend an exorbitant amount of money to put in an elaborate trap system, this possibility is unavoidable.

“Holes in the walls, just about anywhere you can imagine, they can get in. They’re very adaptable,” Swan stated.

According to one study, there are more than 8 million rats in NYC.  If you are one of the unlucky ones who gets a rat in the toilet,  you, Swan suggests a three-step system:  scream, slam, flush.
