Miracle baby turns one
Hayden Spratt celebrated her first birthday in Jackson, New Jersey last weekend. While Hayden and her parents Kim and Fred Spratt were all smiles, this past year has not been easy. In May 2015, Kim and Fred took a babymoon to Portugal. Kim was pregnant with twins and the trip was approved by her doctors.
But at just 24 weeks pregnant, Kim went into labor and delivered twins Hudson and Hayden in Portugal. Two weeks later, Hudson passed away. The family had to stay in Portugal for four months while Hayden built strength to make the return flight to the United States. Eight months later, the family has reason to celebrate.
Hayden is doing well and now weighs 14 pounds, 10 ounces. She has doctor's appointments regularly and does physical therapy exercises daily. She is also on oxygen while she sleeps at night.
Fred and Kim are appreciative of the help they've been given.
"People have reached out to us in our time of need in any way they could & here we are celebrating her first birthday. It's a year to celebrate a lot of things, but one of those things is definitely the compassion and empathy that people have and we're very appreciative of that," Fred said.
