How strong is the hurricane house?

Students at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken have designed a home they say can withstand a hurricane.

The project is called SU+RE House -- "sustainable + resilient."

The 1,000-square-foot home has been constructed to handle 130mph winds as well as 5 feet of flooding.

According to Stevens student A.J. Elliott, the home fits the needs of the Jersey Shore.

The home is not only sustainable, it uses 90 percent less energy use and is solar powered, but it stands a chance to combating the next storm that the shore has.

SU+RE House has been entered into the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon, a competition to design and build energy-efficient houses.

This year's competition is next month in California, where they will be competing with 20 other schools.

The goal of this project is to design something that only cost $250,000. However, on the market, this house in particular costs about $350,000, but it can withstand the next big storm.
