Ali Stroker has climbed to the top of the Great White Way in a most unusual way with her performance in "Spring Awakening" at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
The Ridgewood, NJ, native, who was left paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident at age 2, is the first person to perform on Broadway in a wheelchair.
“It’s just such a dream come true for me. I’ve wanted to be on Broadway since I was a little girl,” Stroker said.
The Tony-winning "Spring Awakening" was first performed in 2007.
But the current revival has taken things in an entirely different and extremely challenging direction.
Deaf West Theater took it over and translated it into American Sign Language -- which Stroker, 28, had to learn for the production.
Seems like nothing is stopping Stroker from accomplishing her dream, first Broadway then another language, what an inspiration.
“There isn’t one way of doing something. There are so many different ways to get to your final destination. So if one door closes another one will open,” Stroker stated.
